Registration and Login (top)
Q. How Do I Register?
A. There are three steps to Registration. First, click on the Register link in the upper right corner of the page. Fill out the information on that page, and click the Register button. At this point, the system will send you an email. Check your inbox and find that email. If it does not arrive within 5-10 minutes, check your Spam or Junk folder. If you still cannot find it, use the form below to let us know. When you find the email, click the embedded link. This will activate your account and take you to the site, and automatically log you in. You can then participate on the site, including rating, commenting, and voting. These steps are in place to maintain security and reduce the opportunity for fraud.
Q. I can’t log in, or when I try to log in I get the error message “Invalid Username or Password”.
A. You probably have not activated your account. When you registered you were sent a confirmation e-mail. That e-mail contained a link that must be clicked to activate the account. If you did not receive that e-mail, please check your spam or junk mail folder for it. You will not be able to login, change your password, vote or comment until you click on that link. If you still can’t find your email or are sure you did not receive it, use the form at the bottom of this page to let us know. Include the Email address or Nickname you used to create the account.
Q. When I try to retrieve my password I’m told that my email address does not exist in the system. But when I try to log in I’m told that my email address has already been used to create an account. What gives??
A. Most likely, you never activated your account. Find the confirmation email – it might be in your spam folder – and click the link in it (if it’s older than 5 days the link will no longer be active; contact us using the form or create another account with a different email address). Then you can log in using the username and password you used to create the account.
Problems Viewing the Videos (top)
Q. I can’t see the videos, or I can see the comments but not the videos.
A. If your school or work blocks streaming video sites like YouTube and you can’t see our videos, they are probably blocking the VideoEgg server. VideoEgg is the technology we use to upload and view videos; ask your systems administrator if he can un-block it for you. If not, you’ll have to view the videos from a computer outside of your network (like at home).
Problems Entering or Submitting a Video (top)
Q. I think I’m on the page where I’m supposed to upload my video, but I do not see any way to actually upload it.
A. The first time you visit the Enter Contest page, you should be asked to install the VideoEgg Uploader. It is a very safe, very small program that enables you to upload videos to our site. If you don’t see the Uploader, your network is probably blocking the VideoEgg server. VideoEgg is the technology we use to upload and view videos. Ask your systems administrator if he can un-block it for you. If not, you’ll have to submit your video from a computer outside of your network (like at home, or the public library).
Q. I've already uploaded my video, but i would like to replace it with a new version. How can i do this?
A. Use the form below to explain the situation. We can delete your account and you can start over with the same email address. However this will also delete any comments on your entry, and any comments you’ve made on other entries.
Technical Questions (top)
Q. What file formats are acceptable / Desirable?
A. In order of reliability, acceptable formats include .wmv, .mov, .avi, .mpg, .mpg4. MPEG2 is not supported.
Q. What is the maximum file size?
A. 100MB.
Q. Can I send you the video in the mail or e-mail?
A. The video must be uploaded from the Internet.
Voting (top)
Q. How Do I Vote?
A. In order to vote, you must be Registered (see How Do I Register, above) and Logged In. When you are logged in, go to the page of the video you want to vote for – the page where you view the video. On that page you will see a button that says Vote for This. Click that button to Vote. If the button says Log In to Vote, you are not logged in. Click the Log In button at the top of the page and log in. Remember that you must be registered in order to log in.
